Understanding LED Lifespan L90B10 100,000 Hours

In my daily communication with different customers, more and more customers shared with me some European brand manufacturers offer L90B10 100,000 hours lifetime option on led street light and high power led flood light.

Maybe you have a question about why people need L90B10 100000 hours lifetime?

First, let me explain what is L and B.

L defines the percentage of lumen compared with the initial lumens. B value means the failure data at the L data. So LB value indicates the real lifetime at a certain hour.

Like L90B10 at 100,000 hours means the LED lamp keeps 90% lumen from the initial lumen and only 10% light failed to reach 90% lumen after  100,000 hours.

In some regular project, maybe L70B50 lifespan more than 100000 hours is enough.

But if you compare L70B50 with L90B10 then you can get clearly L70B50 means only 50% lamp survive at 70% lumen remaining at 100,000 hours. So L70B50 light decay is faster than L90B10.

Therefore, it is not difficult to understand that customers want to maintain the stability of lumen output. In some bidding projects, end customers don't want the illumination to be very bright at the start, while after 3-5 years, the illumination decreases rapidly due to light decay,  so as to avoid too big illumination fluctuations , so they request L90B10 100000 hours at 25℃.
