The Most Suitable Sports Light for Achieving Minimal ULR

The Most Suitable Sports Light for Achieving Minimal ULR

Mark Xie

A typical European amateur football ground will be around 106x70m - open sided, with lighting from 4 or 6 posts between 16 to 18m high, each placed 3m from the marked area. The stated lighting level required is 120 lux for the life of the product, which equates to an initial requirement of >150 lux and a distribution of >0.5 Emin/Eave from a measuring grid 21x13; plus >(Eave x0.75) in front of the goals.

In terms of the beam profile design the 4 post option is the most challenging, therefore we should concentrate on that version and the 6 post will normally follow easily.

The majority of existing HID installations use the Philips Optivision-MVP 507, this product suffers from the usual disadvantages of HID and it allows too much light to escape to the rear, it does however allow simple installation of 12 lights to achieve the required lighting levels from 4 posts with no measurable ULR.

MVP507 can achieve very low ULR performance because it has a beam centre that is offset asymmetrically almost 60° from the axis of the light body, so it can be mounted with a tilt angle <15° from the horizontal.

We develop an asymmetric LED sports light SP02, thanks to its unique structural and optic design, it can achieve max offset asymmetric beam 65°, meanwhile it has 1200W that is capable of replacing the MVP507 on a one for one basis, with the same mounting angle for minimal ULR.
