Nowadays, intelligent lighting control modules are widely used in various applications, such as building lighting, residential lighting, school lighting, street lighting, hospital lighting, billboard lighting, warehouse lighting and so on.

Smart home is not a new concept to us, but do you know what an important component is in the process? The answer is smart module! So, what is an intelligent module? What are the functions of the intelligent lighting control module? Let’s go and find out.

What is intelligent lighting control module

The intelligent module is the execution unit and control terminal of the lighting control system, which forms an organic whole with the background intelligent central control system. All kinds of intelligent modules are connected to the intelligent central controller by wired or wireless means to receive the centralized control instructions of the central controller. The intelligent module, together with the central controller, constitutes the entire intelligent lighting control system.

Intelligent control modules classification

Intelligent control modules can be classified as follows:

PIR control module

A PIR control module can be used to control the lighting fixtures that have infrared remote control function. According to the actual project planning needs, you can choose whether to install the PIR control module or ask the supplier to reserve the location or hole slot for installing the PIR control module when choosing the lighting products. Its main feature is that it can sense the thermal radiation emitted by moving hot objects, thus forming a signal that can be received. The lighting system equipped with PIR control module forms a PIR lighting control system.

PIR lighting control is an automatic lighting control system that uses passive human PIR sensors or PIR receivers to automatically turn on or off the lighting fixtures and lighting system. If PIR sensors are installed on the luminaires, they can transmit signals to the luminaires or lighting system to turn them on or off when someone appears or leaves within the effective detection range of the PIR sensor. It achieves the desired function of “people to light up, people go light out”, increasing the convenience, energy conservation and intelligence of the lighting control system.

Remote control module

The remote control module extends the space limitation of the intelligent lighting control. Remote control module has a wealth of control carriers. It allows the use of mobile phone, computer, network, information feedback system to adjust and control lighting facilities thousands of miles away. For example, in governmental infrastructure projects, such as street light, if all street lights are manually managed, the cost of manpower and material resources will be a big financial outlay. But if you use a remote control module, the situation will be completely different - the operating costs will reduce significantly.

The remote control module is the transceiver of the lighting remote control system. The wireless interconnection of lighting equipment and monitoring center can be achieved via this module. Users can monitor real-time data of each lighting fixture through the monitoring platform and then realize four remote functions - remote control, remote detection, remote transmission, and remote adjustment. So the remote control module plays an important role in the intelligent control of lighting system.

Common functions of the intelligent lighting control module

Sensor control

Sensor control is based on the control module’s perception of certain factors in the surrounding environment, such as the brightness of the light in space, the thermal radiation of human body, human touch, the movement of human position, sound, smoke, and other substances that are used as detection factors in life. In addition to controlling the on-off of lights, sensor control also can change the illumination intensity of lighting fixtures according to the brightness of the space. It can detect whether someone is there to decide whether to light up the lights there so as to achieve the purpose of energy saving. It also can detect some emergency incidents like a fire and a sudden power failure to judge and determine whether to cut off the circuit. Besides above functions, sensor control has one more special function - that is gradient of brightness. When lights are ordered to turn on, these lights will become full bright gradually rather than immediately, setting aside sufficient reaction time and reducing the stimulation of illumination change to make people adapt to the change in brightness of the space, safeguarding the health of people’s eyes and enhancing people’s comfortable experience.

Time control

Time control is a common intelligent lighting control method. This control method needs to set the on-off time for lights in the system. When the time arrives at the set time, the lights will be automatically turned on and off. Time control allows each lighting fixture to set different timetables, and the accuracy of setting time can be up to the second. In general, this method is recommended to use in such occasions which have a fixed law in the time.

Centralized control

For the lights, which position is relatively dispersed, management and maintenance is undoubtedly a great deal of work. Obviously, it is not in line with the requirements of high efficiency of work. Centralized control can efficiently and intelligently manage the lighting equipment scattered in various places and realize unified management and maintenance of lamps. Once reverse lighting, over current, over voltage, low lit rate, non-lit at night, equipment power outage, and other conditions happen, people can know at the first time via centralized control terminal and take action immediately.
