What Effects Does High Temperature Have on the Reliability of High Bay Lighting Product?

AGC Lighting

The reliability of high bay lighting products is influenced by many environmental factors. High temperature is one remarkable factor among them.

High temperatures have major effects on the lifespan of high bay lighting products Most industrial lighting products on the market don't have the ability to continuously operate in high-temperature environments. If these lights are exposed to high temperatures for long periods of time, their performance drops significantly. You will find that you need to pay more for replacing the broken lights and further affect the work efficacy of your workshop.

Effects of high temperature on the product

The workshops of metallurgical, die-casting, and machining are common occasions where the ambient temperature is high. High bay lights that can work in high ambient temperatures are undoubtedly the required product in consumers' minds. To design and manufacture such a product, we must first understand some things about the effects of high temperature on the reliability of the product.

Damage to LEDs

Numerous studies have linked the damage of LEDs to increased temperature of the luminaires' chamber. LEDs is the soul of luminaires. Excessive temperature will burn out LEDs.  It is difficult to form a temperature difference to conduct the produced heat if luminaires work in a high-temperature environment.

Normal light is unfit for high temperatures

For the reason that different materials have different expansion coefficients, the air-tightness of the product may change because of the displacement due to expansion on some components. A product that was originally going to be used at normal temperatures, in many cases, is unfit for a hot environment.

Reduces the lubricating property

If your products have to use lubricant, high temperatures will make the lubricant run off and reduce the lubricating property. The abrasion of product components will increase on account of low lubricating performance. Over time, products will break down.

Impact on the IP rating

High temperature will give rise to deformation of the packing, gasket, seal, bearing, and rotation axis, etc. These deformations will have a big adverse impact on the IP rating of the lighting product.

Affect the electrical performance

The risk of product failure in operating in a high-temperature environment is high. High temperature has been found to change the electrical parameters and affect the electrical performance of products, especially some highly correlated parameters. A small change could have a huge influence.

Cut-off lifespan for lighting products

For some organic materials, high temperatures will easily lead them to bad outcomes like aging, discoloration, foaming, cracking, etc. These adverse signs are known to mean a cut-off lifespan for lighting products. And these changes are visible to the naked eye, making consumers easily judge the quality of the product.

The circuit will be fused or spark

In principle, high temperature requires a higher requirement of circuit requirement. A weak circuit in a high-temperature environment will make lighting products serve as a bomb with potential danger. Once the temperature exceeds the limit value, the circuit will be fused or spark. If there is full of combustible gas and explosive dust in the space, this will significantly increase the possibility of combustion or explosion. An overheated product will become the origin and blasting fuse of those terrible accidents.

Unbalance of internal and external pressure

Temperature rise will reduce the air pressure in the body of the lighting fixture, resulting in an unbalance of internal and external pressure. Stronger atmospheric pressure outside the lamps squeezes the constituent elements of the lights, which eventually leads to some irrecoverable warps, and even makes the lighting structure no longer stable. In recent years, the owners of high-temp plants have noticed this and actively look for more durable products to replace original lights so as to solve the problem.

Worse the insulation

The properties of insulating materials are closely related to temperature. To ensure the insulation performance, each insulation material is specified a maximum allowable operating temperature, below which the insulation material can be used safely for a long time. However, we all know that the higher the temperature, the worse the insulation. High temperatures will worsen the insulating property of materials.

Progressing to lighting products that claimed to be available for high-temp environments is a logical step, as it practically helps reduce the damage rate and replacement cost of lighting devices.
